Excellent price, good value for money. I had no control over the temperature and my roommate was freezing so I slept poorly, woke up hot, and took a while to fall back to sleep all three night I stayed there (late March, still surprisingly cool outside for the time of year). Turn off the heat in the winter unless it’s absolutely six outside and get extra blankets for your chilly roommate, or you’ll boil.
Fast and easy to get a room if they are available is a hostel. One block away from the 86 th train station.
This place is cheap and clean enough to stay there for a week, just to fall in the bed and sleep.
A hostel at $40 per night is one of the cheaper ones in New York City. However, it is located right next to Central Park and a subway/train station (86th street). Whoever wants to visit New York City will find a nice place to stay in with this hostel. The beds are fine, the bathroom very clean and the staff is as nice as helpful. Nevertheless, there’s a reason why I rated it only four stars. It’s not because of some cracks in the wallpaper of the room I stayed in or the door sometimes hardly shutting – this is something that might appear in hostels I guess, therefore it’s cheaper – but because there’s no locker available to put in valuable things. Not everybody might face this concern but it is to be said.
Though the beds looked clean and tidy. I woke up with bed bugs. Not sure if their hygiene is up to standards. Will not recommend it to anyone.
The sign outside was worrying but I had a great experience here. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was cosy. The room wasn’t jammed with beds as is often the case with hostels and there were lockers and WIFI in the room. The stairs were steep and narrow so could possibly be a little treacherous when the weather is bad. I would up having the warm cozy room to myself for $50!
Booking was alright. The key they gave me didn’t work, so I was given a new one… and then another one because that one also didn’t work… and then another one because that one ALSO didn’t work. After three climbs up there with my baggage, I told the clerk that I wasn’t gonna play that game anymore, so he went up with a key and came back for another one and in the end I was awarded my wait with a private room with a non-electronic key. The Wi-Fi didn’t work up in the fifth floor. The bathrooms and showers are ok, but the overall look of the hostel is that it definitely requires maintenance. There were drunkards living in there and the morning staff (I didn’t catch the girl’s name) is not very friendly. I wouldn’t stay there again because there are options that are far better and for the same price.
A nice place to stay if you have little cash for accommodation.
The only good attributes of the hostel are the location and the price. Mostly dirty, doesn’t look AT ALL like the pictures. Cockroaches in the rooms. Spend a few more bucks in a better place. It’s the place I’ve stayed in where I’ve seen the most bugs, and I’ve been camping.
They have a WONDERFUL vintage Curtis elevator. I would recommend riding the elevators. I have no idea what the actual place is like. But the staff were kind enough to let us ride the elevator.
